Description :

This auction is for one Nova Two-Speed Transmission (TURBO). This is the second generation and it is improved with many modifications. For example, the gears are made of steel instead of copper for enhance strength and durability. The hex-nut is machined with a flat side to accommodate the groove on motor shafts Also, the gear box is secured with three screws from the side for a lighter design. This Gear Box is specially designed for 1:10 RC Car. It comes with a box, an instruction manual and all spare parts. It is compatible with any 1:8, 1:10, and 1:12 motors.

Nova Two-Speed Transmission System is driven by the advanced gearing system. Its unique design improves BOTH speed and torque of the motor. It provides racers with more steering control over sharp corner as well as the necessary speed for straight tracks.

It also decreases the power consumption and acceleration time, which allows the car to reach its maximum speed in a shorter amount of time while staying on the track for a longer period. This is a perfect device for racers who want to reach the highest performance and beyond.

Theory:
The gear ratio of NOVA Two Speed Transmission is 1.6 : 1. In order to overcome the static friction barrier, it decreases the speed of the car to increase the torque from the motor. Because of the higher torque, the number of teeth on the motor gear is allow to increase by 1.3 ~ 1.6 times of the original (For example, if the original motor gear is 10T, then the new gear can be ranging from 13T to 16T after the installation of the gear box).
static friction: when an object is not in motion, it's friction with the ground is greater. Thus, more energy is required to accelerate the object.
To start off, we will say the rpm (revolution per minute) of the motor is 20,000. Since the ratio of the gear box is 1.6 : 1, the rpm of Gear A in Fig.2 is 12,500 during low speed. Due to teeth increment of Gear A (from 10T to 16T), the rpm of Gear B is the same as if it had no gear box (refer to Fig.1 ).

As the car reaches a certain speed, centrifugal force in the clutch will forces the 3 clutch plates to spring out. This is how the Gear Box to changes from low speed to high speed. The sprang out clutch plates and the disc enable the motor to transfer power to Gear A directly without going through the other gears as shown in Fig.3. In High speed mod, since the gear ratio is 1 : 1, therefore the rpm of Gear A increase from 12,500 to 20,000 and thus allow Gear B to has a 10,666rpm.

Note:
Under normal circumstance, the ratio of Gear A to Gear B is approximately 6 : 1. Anything below that will generate excess current and damages the ESC, motor and other components of the RC Car. The NOVA Two Speed Transmission allows that gear ratio to change gradually so it will improve performance and prevent damages to any components.
